Sean W. MacNeil (b. 1982, Massachusetts, USA) is a contemporary artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Working primarily in graphite on paper, he is best known for drawings that evoke static, vibration, and perceptual movement.
MacNeil’s subject matter is rooted in his personal relationship with epilepsy, exploring the liminal space between consciousness and unconsciousness. His work is characterized by meticulous mark-making and sustained repetition, resulting in dense visual fields that suggest both instability and control, as well as physical and psychological tension.
Sean W. MacNeil has presented a solo exhibition at Brick Aux Gallery, Brooklyn, New York (November 2023), and has participated in group exhibitions including The Hangman’s End Of Year Collection at The Highline Nine, New York, New York (December 2022). He is currently working on another solo exhibition to be shown at 137 Rivington Gallery in New York, New York in October, 2026.
